The OSCE Support Programme for Ukraine and the Aspen Institute Kyiv invite representatives of the Ukrainian media community to the seminar “Media and Reality: Dimensions of Responsibility”, which will take place on 1–5 October 2025.
The event is intended to create a platform for dialogue on the role of mass media in strengthening democracy, building civil society, developing good governance practices, and supporting the special role of media during wartime. Engaging with professionals of varying backgrounds and perspectives will provide an opportunity to better understand professional challenges.
Participants of the seminar will take part in moderated discussions based on elements of the Socratic method – jointly reading and reflecting on excerpts from works of classical and contemporary thinkers, experts, and authors, and exchanging views and experiences with the aim of gaining a deeper understanding of various aspects of how modern media operate.
Over the course of four days, participants will discuss the following topics:
- the principle of freedom of speech: philosophical foundations, practical implications, and limits of application;
- the politicization of media as a challenge for professional journalism;
- the role of journalism in countering propaganda and disinformation during wartime, and media literacy;
- journalism and the coverage of armed conflicts;
- the transformation of journalism in the age of information technology and social media;
- media self-regulation and ethical standards.
Registration for the seminar “Media and Reality: Dimensions of Responsibility” is open until 25 August 2025 and available via the following link.
